Gun Control

Research:

In the United States, Gun Control is a huge topic. Many U.S. citizens accept that possession of guns is part of the U.S. tradition. They think that the reason for owning a gun is self-defense. There are 650 million weapons in the world and Americans hold 42%. The average death rate of American guns exceeds that of the other more than 20 high-income countries. An average of 300 people were shot each day and 100 people died of gunshot wounds in murders, attempted suicides, and other accidents.

While the gunshot tragedy at the Connecticut school in the United States has not yet been dispersed, there was another shooting incident at the open-air music festival outside the Mandalay Gulf Casino in Las Vegas. More than 50 people have been killed in the shootings and 406 people have been taken to the hospital.

In 2014, 586 fatal firearms accidents occurred in the United States, accounting for 0.4% of the 136,053 fatal accidents of the year.

My Personal Statement:

Why is this issue relevant to me?

I chose this Topic because I think there will be more people telling me different ideas about Gun Control. When I asked my friends, most of them still supported gun control. But related to the Las Vegas attacks, I think that a rigorous background check is really important. The number of shooting deaths per year in the United States is about 30,000. The power of the gun is too powerful. If you commit the crime, the victim will not have any time to fight back or escape. In the United States, I think that security is not safe. I also worry about whether I can go home alive every day. Criminals always find ways to get illegal firearms. But if the guns are banned, how can these ordinary people protect themselves?

"I am personally agree with gun control because it protects people and avoid people from being hurt. When people are in some worse situation, they can use gun to protect themselves, and that’s the right. Everyone deserve the right to keep themselves safe."

                                                                      Aaron Brown
"The connection between gun ownership and gun crime is more and matter of culture and human nature than anything else. Everyone has a right to self-defense and getting rid of guns in and of itself will not get rid of crime. The firearm homicide rate has Actually decreased in the since US 1997. It should be noted that the states with the lowest gun homicide rates in the US are New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa, Idaho, North Dakota and Montana. These places have fairly far gun restrictions. One the other Hand, large cities tend to have high gun homicide rates consider stricter gun laws."
"In addition, Venezuela only has 10% registered gun owners, but is second worst in the world in terms of gun related homicide. By some estimates over 90% of homicide rates are gun related."
"One the other hand, Switzerland has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, but still has a fairly low crime rate."
