INDIVIDUAL CHALLENGES!

Step 2: Personal

This social issue homelessness directly affects me because so many people are just sleeping in my alley or sleeping next to the school I live next too. These homeless people are either half naked or sleeping on the side of the alley and that can be very dangerous. It can be dangerous because there are no lights in my alley and they can get hurt if no one sees them laying in the cement at night they can get run over.

I chose this issue because I believe everyone should have a home. I believe that because people need a safe place to lay their head at night and not be worried if they are going to get killed or robbed at all times of the day. Homeless people in my neighborhood get hurt when they see they got a new blanket or sweater because other homeless people rob it from them. Also, homeless people deserve health care to be able to survive. They might get sick during fall and winter but don't have money for medicine.

Gathering Evidence

Ma Padilla- "Los Angeles needs to find a way to get homeless people help."

Destiny Dominguez- "Homeless people deserve healthcare."

Ariana Cabrera - "Homeless people deserve to have a place to call home."

Dissemination of research to a public audience

  • Middle paying jobs, such as manufacturing jobs, have been decreasing at an alarming rate while low paying jobs, such as service jobs, are increasing.

  • Significant increase of rent.

  • Most homeless lack healthcare.

  • High mortality rate for homeless.

  • Huge developmental risk factors for children that are homeless.

I feel personally affected because everyday I see homeless people in my neighborhood. There are homeless people everywhere in every corner. I chose this issue because we need to find a way to help homeless people have a house, health care, a job, and etc. There are homeless people that are starving each day, haven't brushed their teeth, don't have pads, tampons, can't shower, don't have a place to lay their head, don't have a place to take their family too. There are women that are homeless than can get killed, raped, kidnapped, prostutuion, and etc. Homeless people need help and need to have a place to feel safe and welcomed.
