Social issue
One of the social issues that is important to me is animal cruelty. This social issue is important to me because as an animal lover it's awful to know that millions of innocent animals are being tortured and mistreated by human kind everyday and yet nothing has been done. Many people don’t know that animals are just like humans, they feel pain and have feelings but yet many people just see them as useless animals. There are cold hearted human beings around the world that use animals as entertainment such as in the circus. They hit them or whip the animals just so that they can get their routine correctly and if they don’t, they will be badly mistreated. Not only animals are being used in circuses but as well as dog fighting and cock fighting. These animals aren't here to entertain us, they are here to have a good living but some humans tend to destroy that. Some of the ways that humans like to abuse animals is when they let them starve to death, live in terrible conditions or even putting them in small cages where they aren't able to move as much. No matter of the size of the animals, they are still being abused. Many people would say that all animals are savages, they'll start attacking and get upset. Yes, they attack and get upset but only because we are mistreating them and they try to find a way to defend themselves from harm. This social issue would be relevant to my community because I know many people that are pet owners and/or animal lovers and I know for a fact that they wouldn’t want to see their animals or any other animal getting tortured in any way. And if we don’t do something about this social issue, then the animal population will soon die from the abuse that humans are causing. We should realize that animals live in the same world as human beings, and we should share that with them and make them feel like they are home and safe. But human beings make it hard for animals to feel safe in this world. And it makes it harder for the animals to trust us. We should learn better and respect what's in the world, no matter if it's an animal or a person.
Research on my social issue
Many people may think that animal cruelty is not issue and that we shouldn’t make a big deal out of it but they should know that animal cruelty happens everywhere and everyday just like violence against people. People need to realize that animal and human violence are almost similar to each other. Both humans and animals express feelings when they are being attacked by someone or something. They both feel pain and they cry for help when facing a terrible situation. But yet most cases of human violence are reported more than animal violence. As human beings, we have to remember that these animals are helpless and aren’t able to defend themselves when facing a situation. These living animals came to his world to receive love and comfort, they didn’t come to this world so that humans can torture or kill them whenever they feel like it. “According to The Human Society of the United States, 70.1 percent abuse victims are dogs, 20.9 percent are cats, and 24.1 percent are other animals”(McCord, 2016). We see that dogs are the most common animals that are being abused. Some of the ways that dogs are abused are when humans use them as entertainment. For example, dogs are involved in dog fights which involves dogs attacking each other in a aggressive way. Humans use dogs fights just to entertain themselves or in a way to bet each other to see who’s dogs would last the longest during a fight. Every animal is used in some way of entertainment or are hated by humans which both lead to abuse. Another way how animals are abused, most specifically cats and dogs, is when they tend to walk across the street, and when a car is heading towards them, there's a chance that the car will run them over. One of the mistake that drivers tend to do is, that when they see a dog or a cat crossing the street, they keep driving and head towards their direction rather than trying to avoid them from getting run over. Some drivers don't care if they get killed in the middle of the street. We don't often see drivers trying to rescue a dog or cat and that's what we need. We need more animals to be rescued and have a home where they feel safe. The percentages of cats and dogs do make sense especially in our community because we often see a lot of cats and dogs getting hurt by their own owners or off the streets. Not only we see these incidents in person but as well as we hear it in the news. We hear a lot about how hunters love to hunt animals and they kill them as a way as an "award" for themselves and it affects the animals from going extinct, depending what animal they kill. And once we let these hunters kill these animals, their won't be anymore animals. These statistics shows that how all kinds of animals are getting tortured and mistreated for invalid, ridiculous reasons. And as human beings we should try to make the numbers decrease before it’s too late for the animal population.

Humans don’t realize that if we become more abusive towards these animals and if the numbers continue to increase "The animal population will soon die from all the abuse us humans are causing”(Angstadt, 2016). The community should be affected by this social issue because these precious animals will all soon disappear if we don’t stop animal cruelty. Some people may not think of it this way, but animals can make people happy and bring us comfort. When we feel down or just had a bad day, animals are able to cheer us up. They are here to make us feel better, be our friend, protect us and even to keep us company when we are alone. This social issue is important because there are cold hearted human beings around the world that are hurting animals everyday and yet no one is doing anything about it to stop it. We should ask ourselves that as humans, we are afraid when, where and how we are going to die, shouldn’t we think that’s how animals feel as well? Every animal has that fear about death and they are afraid that one day they are going to get hurt or get killed by someone or something just like how we are afraid of death. No animal should deserve so much hate just because human beings think they are not intelligent as humans. But we are wrong, these animals are intelligent in their own way. Not only they are able to protect their own kind but they are able to protect us from danger. Why do you think there are pet owners that have dogs? To protect us from any harm, especially when they sense that a burglar is trying to break into the house. Not only that but animals are able to sense if a person is an animal lover or not. We would be surprise how smart these animals are in their own way that we can't understand. These animals are able to do things that humans can't do. Some animals are strong, some animals are fast, some animals are able to fly and some animals are able to hear far distance. They have these specials gifts that they are able to use in life but as humans we are taking away their gifts by torturing them.

Personal Statement
This social issue relevant to me because as an animal lover, it breaks my heart when I hear that these poor animals are tortured and killed everyday. These living creatures may not have a voice to speak for themselves and we may not understand how they feel at times but as human beings we should speak for them and fight for their rights. It makes me ask the question to the people who abuse animals, what’s the reason they torture animals? Is it because people feel unhappy? Is it because they feel anger towards them? Or is it because they feel that there is no purpose of welcoming animals into this world? Whatever it is, they shouldn’t express their anger or hatred towards these animals. These people are cruel and have no heart towards these animals. What if things were the other way around meaning animals had a life of a human and humans had a life of an animal. Then humans are able to understand and experience the pain and the sadness animals go through everyday. As a pet owner, it affects me because I had a dog that I consider to be a close friend, always kept me company and protected me and it would be sad to see if I was a pet owner that mistreated my own dog for not reason. I chose this social issue because many people don’t give enough love towards these animals and people rather give love towards themselves. Many don’t realize how many people are affected when they hear in the news that a hunter has killed an elephant just to get the elephant’s trunks as a reward or how people killed a wolf just so that they could cut off its fur to make a fur coat. All of these signs are considered to be animal cruelty and this is not okay. What we should do instead is give love, comfort and adopt them. All of these will give so much comfort to the animals and they wouldn’t have to be afraid of us and they are able to rely on us no matter what. We just have to work together and stop animal cruelty because one day we can stop this and make a difference for them.

A: "Animal cruelty is very wrong not only for the animals but also for the society as a whole. We already know what the beauty product experiments do on the animals but also we are allowing society to be taught that animal cruelty is okay and normal. Society has gotten so used to animal cruelty that when an average high school student learns about it in high school they don't care about it."

A: "I think animal cruelty is wrong because, like humans, animals feel pain. I think they do not deserve maltreatment when most of the time they are brought into close contact with humans by humans. There is no justification for animal cruelty, especially when humans are the reason behind animal attacks since they continually invade their habits."
