 Impacts from Pandemic Locally

Covid-19 has lingered in the back of everyones mind starting in December 2019 going into the new year. Many have read articles and watched new stories on how the epidemic in China was slowly evolving into a pandemic impacting countries globally. Few people were optimistic that the virus would never reach the United States and others began preparing for the worst. Starting in mid March, business, schools, offices began to close their doors in order to fight the virus. Orders present by the mayor of Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti began a stay at home order limiting any Los Angeles resident to social gatherings and begin to promote social distancing. This began many Angelinos to panic because of job security. Thousands of people have been effected by the closures forcing unemployment cases to sky rocket. California Governor Gavin Newsome stated, "We just passed the 1 million mark for number of claims (unemployment) since March 13" (Koran) With levels of stress increasing in the communities across souther California many citizens have found several ways to cope with this pressure and pain including alcohol consumption, binge eating and excessive use of video games.

Action

Being inspired by many other famous artwork from artist such as Invader, Mr. Brainwash, JR and his inside out project I was quickly motivated to create something creative and began to look at the effects of Covid-19 and my community. I wanted to make sure the people in our community had each others backs and made it know they were not alone even-though they might feel as if they are due to social distancing, stress or and other emotions because of Covid-19. Using my magical skills and photoshop I felt it was only necessary to create my art pieces.

NO MORE TACOS IN LA
I SAID STAY HOME!
WE GOT THIS, I GOT THIS????
Why it matters to me
In these times of uncertainty it is important we stick together as a community. Working in a hospital I have I have seen the effects Covid-19 takes on people and their loved ones. I have been effected by the shortage of supplies at hospital to protect ourselves and many of my coworkers are afraid to go home after work in fears they bring the virus home accidentally. It is real. The stories spreading though all social media platforms have been accurate for the most part. BUT I am proud to be serving my community in the best way I possible can during this pandemic. Even though all these protocols and procedures have been put in place to protect each other, it is important to make sure we look out for our neighbors, elderly, or anyone that can be effected by this horrible virus. I asked people within my community if they were with me and pledge to make a change and help one person a day if they can. These are few of many of the people who stood by me and the plan.

Luis Rodriguez
Hospital Sterilization Technician
Baldwin Park, CA
Since I began this project I really felt the need to talk to my community because I knew many people were believing false information about the virus. Working in the hospital during this pandemic has really taught me a a-lot. This pandemic not only hit close to home but has effected my everyday life style. I no longer wake up then go to school followed by work, now I am forced to work 12 hour shifts 5 days a week in order to keep up with the shortage of staff and demand. But I do know how grateful I am to still be working because of the current situation has place a-lot of stress and anxiety on the economy and communities. I Luis Rodriguez  has
vow to stay strong & positive and help those in need as much as I can during this pandemic. Stay safe and WASH YOUR HANDS 😅
