Global Warming

ART 3170 Civic Engagement: Social Issues "Action" Project

Welcome to the ART 3170 blog created as part of the civic engagement requirement of this course. In this blog, students will identify a major social issue that affects them and their communities. After conducting brief research on the issue and sharing their personal feelings, students will locate members of their communities who are also affected by the same social issue.

Global Warming

What is Global Warming?

A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally
attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide,
chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.

 Major Issue

Have you ever thought about how global warming is affecting us and where we live in a certain way? Global Warming has begun to impact our lives which have damaged many homes, lives of many. Also, it has impacted animal habitats such as ice glaciers, forests and the change of the climate.

Research
Global warming is an issue that needs to be solved because if we don't do anything about it can impact us and for future generations. Eventually,  a few things can impact us greatly such as:
1. Climate change

  • Rises temperature

2. Greenhouse effect- when certain gases in the earth's atmosphere trap heat

3.  Greenhouse gases

Solutions:

  • Planting trees
  • Restoring seagrasses and forests
  • Adapt to climate change
  • rethinking your modes of transportation

Personal Effect
This social issue affects me personally because I live in a city that is full of cars, tall buildings and their lots of things that affect the environment. However, I know there are places in the world that have been affected and live in the worst of conditions. Such as large landfills, the lack of resources and how everything has changed so quickly.  The ozone layer that protects us from the sun rays is disappearing by the time which can affect our skin.  This affects me because not only my cousins will not get to use the resources that this planet has but their will nothing left for the future generations.

Why did I choose this issue?
I  chose the social of Global warming because if we don't make a  change then the future of this planet can affect us all in a certain way?  If the government doesn't really care about our environment then let's take a stand to make a change for the better.  It can impact our health, our survival, the air we breathe and each living thing that lives beside us.

Interviews

Question: Why is it important to protect this planet? Is there any way to make a change for the better?

It is important because it just doesn't affect us people but it affects animal's habitats for example animals that live in colder climates can't adapt to warmer temperatures. We have to inform people about this issue and find a way to make a change. -Allison

It is important to protect this planet because it is our home. It is the home for the animals who inhabit it, and if we don't protect it then we will be unable to live, as our home would be destroyed. We have can continue to enforce plastic bans and make sure to use things that help the environment; such as bikes, solar panels, and products that dissolve easily and give back to the planet. And of course, we gotta stop chopping trees because they purify the air and provide oxygen for the entire planet🌏 . -Claudia

If we aren't aware of what is happening to this planet then we make a change. It is also important to protect this planet because is the only planet that we can survive in. One of the ways we can change for the better is to replant forests for oxygen and to research ways we can change for this planet - Daniel
