Tuition is
being to raise higher each year, which means many student who want to get a
loan are going to be in debt for many years. It has "tripled over the last decade, surpassing auto and
credit card debt and only second to housing debt, and now stands at
almost $1.5 trillion" (Annie Nova). Not many get to finish
paying these debts because they keep rising and there are times that some
people do not get to find a job that pays them well or enough for them to pay
student loans. For example, Rick Tallini was a student who really did not worry
of student loans because he was going to law school, but "since he
graduated, he's struggled to find employment and pay the bills" and
"his original student loan balance, meanwhile, has soared to well over
$300,000" (Annie Nova). Sometimes student do not get lucky to find jobs
and if they do, they payment can be a little. Not enough for them to pay loans
and other bills they need to pay. There are many graduate students who
"leave school with about $37,000 in debt on average" which means that
most may be able to pay it off, but it can be a lot of work and stress to pay
off (Jillian Berman). Then there are others that can be higher which they will
struggle more to pay off. The ones who are "likely suffering the most from
our increasingly debt-reliant college finance system are the students who leave
school with debt, but no degree or a degree worth little in the labor
market" (Jillian Berman). These are one of the many reasons many students
are dropping out of school. They see how much they owe or will owe and know it
will be impossible because there are those who are unfortunate to not have
money or help to continue school. This is one of the biggest causes that make
students drop out to not be in so much debt and it is not fair for those who
started but did not finish because of how much they owe. They are paying for
something they ended up not getting. Everyone deserves to get education freely,
or at least cheaply.

Supporting Evidence
I think student debt should be forgiven. It should be forgiven
because students are the future of this country and the government should help
us students out to make this country better. Without student debt there wouldn’t
be so many young people dropping out of school. -Jacqueline Vivar
In all honesty, I think that it is kind of ridiculous for students
to go to school to get a career in the future to make money, but they have to
pay so much to do it. They get left with so much debt. I think the government
should do something to help students out with situations like this. -Carolina Vasquez
I think student debt is an issue that the government should help us out with because many people are relying on the younger generation to become better, to be the future. But how can we be the future if school is so expensive and many drop out because of how expensive it is. -Paola Ayala
