Gun Violence

STOP GUN VIOLENCE!

RESEARCH

As the years keep passing shootings around the world keep happening and we keep having many victims dead because of the second amendment. Anyone has the right to have a gun but people are not using the gun appropriate. On December 4, 2012, the most terrifying nightmare occur in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. Being a normal school day around 9:30 am a man decided to go inside the school. The man was carrying multiple guns and got inside the school and started to shoot in front of the main entrance of the school. The man started to go into some of the classrooms inside the elementary school and started shooting at teachers and students. Susan and Sarah state, "Within minutes, 26 people were dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School-- 20 of them children. Among the six adults killed were Dawn Hochsprung, the school's beloved principal, and school psychologist Mary Sherlach" (Police: 20 Children among 26 Victims.. 2012).The shooter had first killed his mother which her body was found dead. After he killed his mother he decided to go to the Elementary School to kill more victims which were near the entrance of the . Many innocent victims were killed in such a few seconds. After he was done killing he took his own life and shot himself.

Then on October 1, 2017 recently we had a shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada in a music festival. The authors state, "Perched in his suite at a high-rise hotel overlooking the Vegas Strip, a 64- years-old retiree with no real criminal history and no known affiliations with terror groups rained bullets down into a crowd at a country music festival Sunday, killing at least 59 people and injuring hundreds more in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history" (At least 59 killed in Las Vegas shooting.. 2017). This shooting just happened like 2 months ago and harm many victims who where enjoying a festival. The shooter was holding a AK-47 rifle from the top of his room and just decided to start shooting. The shooter had multiple weapons in his hotel suite. The shooter just started to shoot from his room to the victims in the music festival. Once the victims heard the gun shots everyone started to run and there were gun shots everywhere. The shooter had been in the hotel for more than a week and had multiple suitcases. The hotel he was staying at never check his suitcases which he had all the weapons. This is why guns need to be prohibited because anyone uses it as way to harm innocent people.

Guns have impact my community and my life. Since the 2nd amendment was pass in 1791 anyone has had the right to have gun in the United States. I live in a low income community where you always see gang members in my block or near by. In the night you were able to hear gun shots and the next day someone was dead. Guns have brought to my community a lot of violence and deaths. People tend to use guns now a days to kill many innocent people. In the past few years we have had many killers using guns to kill a big crowd of people. Few days ago we had a shooting at Las Vegas at a festival. The terrorist was an American citizen who was psycho and decided to shoot from his hotel room. A lot of innocent people were injured and they were many deaths.Guns have dramatize me since the days all this school shootings started to happen. I feel since shootings are so popular around the world I don't feel safe.
I been working at a elementary school for three years and I get very scared that one day a random person will go inside the school and start shooting. It's scary because I work with elementary children who are starting to live life. Is very sad to think there so much crazy people that are willing to hurt other innocent people with weapons and don't realize the danger on using the weapons.

I HATE guns. That's how I feel when I hear the word guns. I'm so against it because some of my two family member were shot with a gun. I still remember when my mom got a phone call that my cousins were dead because they both got shot. It was the worst day in my life. One of cousins got shot with 9 bullets in his back. My other cousin was shot with 2 bullets. I was in elementary when this happened but it was really hard for me to go through this. I was small but I still remember that phone call that my mother received in the middle of the night.

Guns need to be prohibited because its bringing more deaths in the United States. After all the shooting happening around the world and in the United States we need to bring it to a STOP. Guns don't shoot people, PEOPLE are the ones who shoot. Guns need to be prohibited because is making this world into a nightmare. After having this shootings going on they finally can do something to prevent the number of deaths keep increasing.

INTERVIEWS

As the Second Amendment of the US Constitution states, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Owning a gun has became more of an “American” thing that is protected by the amendment itself which gives people the right to bear arms. Removing this right would defeat the purpose of a “free country”. Giving people the right to own a gun has given criminals the fear to confront their victims therefore crime rates have decreased. However this also has caused many tragedies throughout the states itself which has raised many concerns whether this right should be removed from the American people. There should be a fine line in between where the right to bear arms should not be eliminated but heavily regulated. Technology has advanced and so should the gun regulations. Many limitations can be applied to the gun laws as well as devices that can advice authorities if a gun is to be used or safety removed giving out the individual’s location since the only time these are to be “used” are only emergency cases. Guns are dangerous and should be more heavily regulated instead of completely prohibiting them. -David Xian

The safety of our community is something we should all be concerned about, but what about when we own a gun? Having a weapon such as a gun in a household can not only be used for our safety but it can be dangerous to have. In today’s society gun control has become a difficult topic to go over, innocent people have been killed and families have been destroyed. Guns have become accessible for anyone to own and people take advantage of owning one. I understand that having a gun can be used for protection and it can be important to have one but I do not agree on how easy it has become to own one. I believe that there has to be stricter rules in order to be able to obtain a weapon because not everyone can take the responsibility of having one. I do not want to have a gun in my household if i do not know how to use it or if children can be accessible to it. There has been many cases where children have been hurt or even killed because they found the weapon in their house or someone that is not mentally okay has possession of it and uses it for a disadvantage. I would have to think twice if I would want my family or myself owning a gun in today's society.
